A handmade fashion fabric net. With this campaign, we intend to extend our existing production to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to contribute to the wealth of local artisans as well as to make handmade textiles accessible to young and independent fashion designers. We are trying to re-evaluate handmade and tailored dresses in Europe through the Akwa network.

How to boost traffic on kickstarter when momentum slows down?

Does Akwa stand for anything? The main goal of your business is to make fabric right? How do you go about doing that?

Sep 18, 1:01PM EDT1

Akwa means dress in Nigerian Ibo dialect. The  aim is to extend our already existing production in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in order to contribute to the wealth of local craftsmen, as well as to make handmade fabrics affordable to young and independent fashion designers. We are striving for a reevaluation of handmade and custom-made dresses in Europe through the Akwa network.

I love the way you have taken a very traditional thing and turned it into something modern and trendy that will keep the heritage of these fabrics alive, how did the idea first hit you?

Sep 1, 1:06PM EDT0

Fabrics are part of my African cultureIt is not easy growing up in two cultures and not be able to identify yourself in any of them. The idea was born after having faced a difficult time in my life, so I tried to figure out who I was and the answer was simpler than I thought: I am a lucky human being, because I had the opportunity to grow in a free country and realize my passions.

How are you going to work out "Fair pay" and a fair contract model for your workers?

Sep 1, 11:38AM EDT0

At this time this is a project. The fabrics I used in the collection I bought and did not produce. When the time comes, I am going to trust those who owe it to bureaucratic issues.I'm a disigner and these things are not part of my skills. But I assure you that my workers will be absolutely protected, I do not want to exploit anyone.

Due to the nature of the fabrics & how long they take to make, what would you do if and when you reach max production possible?

Sep 1, 11:35AM EDT0

I'm not sure I understand your question fully, anyway, there are already local textile productions all over the world, I do nothing more than share them worldwide, it is a research and information work that aims to increase the economic development of the premises, in this case those of the Ivory Coast.Obviously it is a niche product made for they that believe in quality and not in consumer quantity.

How do you source all of your fabrics - how long did it take to build a good network?

Sep 1, 11:04AM EDT0

I work with a textile lab at Issia, Daloa (Côte D'Ivoire).the birthplace of my mother, with the right means I think I can build a network that works within 3 years

Sep 2, 7:40AM EDT0

Nice! I assumed you would have built a network already being that is the basis of your idea?

Sep 2, 4:28PM EDT0

Do you not feel that building a manufacturing factory will take away from the traditional way the fabrics are usually made?

Sep 1, 11:02AM EDT0

It is certainly a risk from the time the idea works, I would be obliged to open up other branches and it would be difficult to carry out quality control. But little by little the production is small and there are many people who still work with the old hand-made frames and are busy producing the fabrics they need
